The Virtual Investment Group, or VIG for short, is a small group that meets once a month to discuss stocks and shares on the UK stock market and to look at trends and market moves. To make it more interesting we run a competition wherein each member selects four shares that are listed on the Stock Exchange – Footsie and AIM. Each chosen share is allocated £1,000 and each month we meet to see how each member’s shares have performed! There are 1,300 companies with a shareholding on the main Footsie board and a further 680 on AIM so there is no shortage of potential!

This Group is a good way to learn more about stocks for those who are not investors and ideal to pick up tips to add to your portfolio if you are currently investing. The meetings are light-hearted and nobody is judged on their performance. In June with one month to go before the end of the season my £4,000 notional investment had declined to £1,749 whilst the value of the top performer had a portfolio worth a notional £6,141 – so, I didn’t score too well!

We don’t invest; no money will be requested except for a small contribution (£14 for this last year) to the cost of the hall hire at the end of the year.

If you think that this could be of interest, please let Tony Woods know or come along to the meeting on Monday.

Tony
