Handmade Hats (November 2024)

There was a very tenuous link to gardening at November’s meeting with Emma Moscow, a local milliner, bringing along a selection of her handmade hats, some of which are embellished with silk flowers.

She gave us a brief history of some of the earliest fashion hats – think Cavaliers and women’s bonnets – followed by a lesson on how they are made today, with various fabrics and hats passed around the audience for closer inspection.

A very interesting afternoon, followed by an early festive treat of mince pies alongside the obligatory cup of tea. Photos by Jill Cornwell.
